Shift Point / RPM Drop Calculator
Calculate RPM drop between gears at the shift
RPM drop is how far engine speed falls on an upshift, calculated from the two gear ratios and the shift RPM.
Formula: RPM after shift = shift RPM × (next ratio ÷ current ratio)
What this number means
This calculates how far engine RPM falls when you shift from one gear to the next at a given shift point. The drop is fixed by the ratio spread — only the shift point moves where in the powerband the engine lands.
What to change next
If the engine lands below its strong range after a shift, either shift later (if the top end allows) or address the ratio spread. Use the result with your dyno curve or timeslip increments to choose shift points gear by gear, not one number for all shifts.
Worked example
Shifting at 7,000 RPM from a 1.80 gear into a 1.30 gear drops the engine to ≈ 5,055 RPM.
