Density Altitude Calculator

Calculate density altitude from your local weather conditions

Density altitude is the altitude in the standard atmosphere that matches the air density your engine is actually breathing.

Formula: Virtual-temperature density solution: DA = 44,330 m × (1 − (ρ ÷ 1.225)^0.235), ρ from station pressure, temperature and water vapor

What this number means

This calculates density altitude from temperature, barometric pressure and humidity (or dew point) for your track. It is the single air number your engine responds to, regardless of the track's physical elevation.

What to change next

Log the result on every timeslip and learn how many feet of DA cost your car a hundredth. When DA swings far from your tuning baseline, consider a jetting change or simply dial for the air.

Worked example

At 90°F, a 29.80 inHg altimeter setting and 60% humidity at a 600 ft track, density altitude is ≈ 3,200 ft.
